Abstract:

With advances in technology, electronic payment is becoming widely used.
Compared to physical cash, E-payment is more efficient in many aspects.
However, most E-payment systems do not protect user's privacy. Digital
Cash is proposed as an E-payment system that ensures user's anonymity in
transactions. This report explains what is Digital Cash and discusses what
are properties of ideal Digital Cash. Some representative Digital Cash
schemes are described in details. With analysis on these schemes, this
report attempts to figure out principles and critical issues of Digital
Cash design. This report also discusses issues related to implementation
and administration of Digital Cash. In the end of the report, we summarize
what are the technical, operational and legal issues of Digital Cash. We
also give suggestions on future study to develop a successful Digital Cash
system.
