A Survey on Emerging Natural User Interfaces in Mobile Computing

PhD Qualifying Examination

Title: "A Survey on Emerging Natural User Interfaces in Mobile Computing"

by

Mr. Kirill SHATILOV

Abstract:

Augmented, mixed and virtual reality (AR/MR/VR), greatly challenged the
classical input/output models of human-computer interaction. Natural User
Interfaces (NUIs), as a paradigm of using natural intuitive actions to
interact with computing systems, is one of many ways to meet this
challenge. Such an interfaces include Brain-Machine Interfaces,
Myoelectric input methods, gaze-tracking interfaces and many others. The
aim of this survey is to summarize and estimate existing work and outline
potential ways of application of NUIs in mobile scenarios. The survey will
provide bottoms-up overview starting from (i) underlying biological
aspects, (ii) portable hardware solutions for signal acquisition, (iii)
signal processing techniques and accompanying software, and (v) design of
HCI applications.
