A Survey on Affective Perception from Human Poses

PhD Qualifying Examination

Title: "A Survey on Affective Perception from Human Poses"

by

Mr. Mingfei SUN

Abstract:

Human pose analysis has attracted increasing attention in various research
domains, especially in affective computing. This survey attends to provide
a comprehensive review of affective perception from human poses, covering
both pose acquisition methods and affective perception models. In the
first part, two types of acquisition methods of human poses, sensor-based
and vision-based, are investigated, followed by a summary of publicly
available pose datasets with emotion annotations. In the second part, the
affective perception models are discussed from two perspectives: single
modality perception and multi-modality fusion. Specifically, single
modality perception mainly covers the pose feature processing, pose
sequence analyzing and probabilistic pose modeling; multi-modality fusion
illustrates and compares different modality fusion strategies, i.e.,
level-based fusion and neural network fusion. At the end of this survey,
the potential research gaps are briefly presented with possible solutions
being proposed.
