Miss Hiu Ting CHAN

Abstract:

Music emotion is a growing and popular research topic. Recent research has
shown that different musical instrument sounds have strong emotional
characteristics. It has also shown how these emotional characteristics change
with different pitch and dynamics for the piano and bowed strings. However,
there are still some unknowns that how the timbre, pitch, and dynamics
influence the emotions characteristics of the instruments. The purpose of this
survey is to show a motivation of investigating the relationship between music
emotion and features in musical instrument tones. Music emotion research, along
with the study of musical aspects and emotional characteristics of the brass,
woodwind, and string instruments, is discussed in detail in this survey.
