COMP 4900 Academic and Professional Development (Spring 2014)

Coordinator: Dr. Cindy Li
Email:

Course Objectives

  • To allow students to get to know at least one faculty member/department academic advising staff in the department sufficiently well so that academic, personal development and career advice can be sought readily;
  • To prepare students to take up internship, and placement positions;
  • To help students to understand the working environment via seminars given by industrialists, and experience sharing from alumni.

Course Requirements

Each student is assigned to a faculty academic advisor. In order to "pass" the course, you are required to meet with your respective advisor in a context of social gathering in year 2 Fall. In the remaining semesters, meeting with advisor is optional. You're recommended to meet your advisor once a year. There might be required seminars/talks organized by department to attend too.

For students with unsatisfactory academic progress (UAP), you're required to have individual meeting with your academic advisor and/or departmental academic advising staff every semester.

Failure of fulfilling the above requirement may lead to a 'F' grade to this required course. Please be reminded that a "F" grade in COMP 4900 will affect your graduation.
