Abstract:

Cyber-Physical Systems is a new frontier of research for computer science
and engineering. It has been highlighted by the August 2007 US President's
Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) report and
recommended by the Federal Networking and Information Technology R&D
(NITRD) as a top priority for federal research investments. In this talk,
I will present two pieces of my recent work focusing on power management
and temporal performance guarantees for cyber-physical systems,
exemplified by large scale Internet Data Centers and networked embedded
systems. First, I will show how we can jointly consider the cyber and
physical aspects of Internet Data Centers to minimize the total
electricity cost in a multi-electricity market environment. Then I will
present Universal Feasible Region Analysis, which is a new schedulability
analysis framework for ensuring response time guarantee for networked
embedded systems under general workload.
