A Survey On Distributed Parallel Computing: Systems and Networking

PhD Qualifying Examination

Title: "A Survey On Distributed Parallel Computing: Systems and
Networking"

by

Mr. Li CHEN

Abstract:

Distributed and parallel computing systems are the cornerstones of the Big
Data era. This type of computing systems span over hundreds or thousands
of machines, so as to cope with the ever-expanding data volume and
increasingly complex models/problems. As such scale, the communication
between machines is a bottleneck issue for application performance. In
this survey, we investigate the central concepts, computation and
programming models, common architectures and frameworks, as well as
popular applications in distributed and parallel computing. We highlight
the challenges in the networking subsystems, and present potential
research opportunities.
