PhD Qualifying Examination

Title: "A Survey on Digital Facial Editing"

by

Miss Chuhan SHI

Abstract:

Digital facial editing refers to the operation of modifying human faces in
images or videos. It has been widely adopted in various applications, such as
social media, plastic surgery planning, and virtual try-on services. In this
survey, we categorize facial editing techniques, present their applications,
and discuss design considerations in improving user experience in the editing
process. Specifically, we distinguish face-related and context-related editing
techniques, with the former including face texture beautification and face
shape beautification and the latter covering digital face makeup and filters.
Furthermore, we discuss design opportunities for easing the editing process and
improving user experience by considering application scenarios, facial
characteristics and human perception on aesthetics.
