A Survey on Spectrum Management and Measurement in Cognitive Radio Networks

Title: "A Survey on Spectrum Management and Measurement in Cognitive Radio Networks"

Mr. Dawei Chen

Abstract:

Radio spectrum is one of the most important resources for wireless
communication but research shows that nearly all the spectrum bands have been
allocated. In traditional wireless networks, the lack of radio spectrum has
become the bottleneck of the development of wireless networks. On the other
hand, the spectrum utilization efficiency in licensed spectrum bands is quite
low. Thus, people are exploiting new way to transmit on licensed bands for
wireless networks when these bands are not fully used, which makes Cognitive
Radio Network (CRN) come into being. In CRN one of the challenge problems is
spectrum management. And before we take any actions to exploiting the licensed
bands, we need to better understand the utilization of the licensed bands,
which calls for spectrum measurement. In this survey, we take an overview of
the existing works on spectrum management especially on spectrum assignment and
scheduling problem, and the existing works on spectrum measurement aspect. Then
our considerations on these problems are presented for each aspect.
