Dr. Amir Goharshady Received the EAPLS Best PhD Dissertation Award

Congratulations to Dr. Amir Goharshady, Assistant Professor at the Departments of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Mathematics, on receiving the EAPLS Best PhD Dissertation Award from the European Association on Programming Languages and Systems (EAPLS) for his dissertation titled "Parameterized and Algebro-geometric Advances in Static Program Analysis".

EAPLS is the primary European research association in the fields of programming languages and systems. Its annual Best Ph.D. Dissertation Award was established in 2010 and goes to the Ph.D. thesis which has made the most original and influential contribution to the area. The purpose of the award is to draw attention to excellent work, help the career of the awardee, and promote the research field as a whole. The winner is selected by a committee of international experts who are prominent researchers in programming languages and systems.

According to the jury, Dr. Goharshady's dissertation explored a range of program analysis and verification problems using novel approaches while each chapter analyzed a problem using an algebraic/geometric formulation as a new perspective and gained significant results. He addressed a class of relevant problems leveraging non-elementary mathematical approaches and presented accurate complexity analyses. The results obtained in this thesis were remarkable and had been published in competitive venues. The jury concluded that it is an outstanding piece of work.
