The WinyDB Project at HKUST
WinyDB is an embedded query processing system on Windows CE .NET based PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant) for extracting information from a network of wireless, smart sensor nodes. It descends from the TinyDB system developed at UC Berkeley. Compared with its PC-based ancestor, WinyDB has its own unique features:
- Embedded. WinyDB is developed using the .NET Compact Framework on Windows CE .NET and works well on PDAs running Windows CE Mobile 2003 (aka Pocket PC 2003).
- Distributed. Multiple PDAs running WinyDB can communicate with one another and query the local sensor network as well as remote sensor networks.
- Efficient. Both PDAs and sensor networks are resource constrained. WinyDB has a resource management component and optimizes its operations to minimize the resource consumption in a cost-based manner.
Code Packages
WinyDB is under rapid development.
