Overview
I am currently a Professor in the Information Hub, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), and I am also an affiliated Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, HKUST. Previously, I was a Redbird Visiting Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, HKUST, and a Professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering, University of New South Wales, Australia.
My research areas include Databases, Algorithms, and Artificial Intelligence. I have published research papers in these areas, with a majority of them in prestigious international journal (ACM TODS, VLDB Journal, IEEE TKDE) and conferences (SIGMOD, VLDB, ICDE, WWW, SIGIR, IJCAI, AAAI, ACL). In addition, several pieces of my research have been deployed in industrial projects and products.
My current research interests are:
- Understanding high-dimensional data, including its structure, properties, and algorithms (such as approximate nearest neighbor queries).
- Integration of database and artificial intelligence technologies.
- Knowledge graphs, including its construction, maintenance, refinement and applications. Natural language processing (NLP) and deep learning (DL) techniques are heavily researched and leveraged.
- Security issues of deep learning models, including various adversarial attacks and defense.
- Cross-disciplinary research and applications.
