Abstract:

Dense indoor WALNs (Wireless Local Area Networks) are common and essential
to nowadays organizations such as offices and universities. One main
factor that is limiting its performance is the signal interference in the
networks. The more densely the access points are allocated, the larger
interference there is because of the uncoordinated access methods. To
address this problem, the idea of centralized WLAN came up, proposing
using a central controller in the networks to coordinate the network
access in a better manner. By processing the information collected at the
central controller and allocate the access points to mobile stations, the
network resources are managed with a higher utility. In this work, we
study the centralized WLAN, how it can be implemented, and how the
protocol should be specified. We also implement the protocol to test its
practical capability.
