PhD Qualifying Examination "A Survey on Ubiquitous Graphics" Miss Hong Zhou Abstract: Ubiquitous graphics allows people to run 3D graphics applications anywhere, anytime, and on various devices. With the advent of high bandwidth wireless networks and cheap but powerful graphics hardware, ubiquitous graphics will find many important applications and have huge impacts on our daily life. In this survey, we will review some important techniques for ubiquitous graphics. Specifically, we will focus on four key components of ubiquitous graphics: task distribution, data layout, data compression, and data transmission. These four components are very important for our target applications such as pervasive medical visualization system, remote diagnosis, navigation of virtual building, and collaborative learning. At the end of this survey, we will point out some future research directions.
