PhD Qualifying Examination "Topology issues in Wireless Sensor Networks" Mr. Mo Li Abstract: Topology issues have received many attentions in Wireless Sensor Networks. While many WSN applications attempt to provide optimized network topology, the topology control itself is also under intensive study for reliable and energy efficient network construction and maintenance. Existing approaches employ topology directed routing and cooperating schemes as well as sensor coverage based and network connectivity based mechanisms in order to achieve better monitoring and communicating ability with prolonged system lifetime. In this survey, we categorize the previous works and make a comprehensive study on them. We discuss different sub-problems, aiming at providing a full scale view on this area. By summarizing existing achievements and analyzing the open issues, we point out several possible research directions in future.
