PhD Qualifying Examination "A Survey on Cross-Organizational Process Collaboration" Mr. Chunyang Ye Abstract: Advances in Internet technologies have revolutionized the way businesses interact with their partners and customers. An increasing number of organizations now collaborate with their business partners through business processes deployed over the web. These processes are typically distributed, autonomous and heterogeneous. Their collaboration introduces interesting research issues such as scalability, volatility, autonomy, heterogeneity, dependability, security, privacy and so on. This survey presents an analysis of the major research issues and various existing techniques for cross-organizational process collaboration. We find that they generally address four aspects: establishment of partnership, collaboration modeling, infrastructure support and quality of service. Recent research work is discussed and assessed systematically on each aspect. The discussion is illustrated using a manufacturing process collaboration example.
