Computer vision is concerned with modeling and replicating human vision using computer software and hardware. It entails reconstructing 3D scenes from 2D images. It can be used in robotics, medicine, security, transportation, industrial automation, navigation, product assembly and object sorting.

Computer graphics is concerned with the creation, manipulation and storage of digital geometric objects (modeling) and their images (rendering). It has been popularized by the video game industry, but it is also used for computer aided design (CAD), presentation graphics, 3D animation, education and training, medical visualization, simulators for training pilots, etc.
