Pulse of HKUST Project Awarded Student Innovation Gold Award in HKICT Awards 2019

CSE students Aoyu WU, Bon Kyung KU, Wai TONG, and Leni YANG won the Student Innovation Gold Award of Hong Kong ICT (HKICT) Awards 2019 with their project "Pulse of HKUST - A Data-driven Smart Campus". The HKICT Awards is steered by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer annually to recognize and promote outstanding information and communications technology inventions and applications. Student Innovation is one of the eight categories under HKICT Awards 2019.

Supervised by Prof. Huamin QU, this project aims at promoting a smart campus which supports effective and smart decision-makings through the combined power of IoT devices, big data, and AI. It serves as a data-driven platform to palpate the "pulse" of the campus community such as human distributions, facility availabilities, and events. It has been deployed since the HKUST Information Day 2018 and been selected as one HKUST Sustainable Smart Campus as a Living Lab initiatives.
