CSE UG Student Padmanabhan KRISHNAMURTHY Joined HKU Team and Won 1st Runner-up at Global Grand Challenges Summit 2019

A joint university team of Hong Kong wins the first runner-up at the Student Competition of 2019 Global Grand Challenges Summit in London

Led by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of The University of Hong Kong and comprising HKU students Sidhant GUPTA, Angel Chung-yu WOO, Utkarsh GOEL, Ahmed Abbas ALVI, Jiacheng MA, Padmanabhan KRISHNAMURTHY from CSE, HKUST and Man Yee YIP from CityU joint the HKU team to form a Joint University Team of Hong Kong and won 1st runner-up at the Global Grand Challenges Summit 2019 with their project, "ClearBot". "ClearBot" is an AI-powered, autonomous plastic-collecting robotic solution that took aim at the global ocean plastic epidemic.

The Global Grand Challenges Summit 2019 was held on 13 September 2019 in London and was jointly organized by the NAE, the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), and the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng). University teams would need to propose an innovation or novel approach to address global challenges associated with the subthemes of the Summit, "Will AI and other transformational technologies help human beings become better?" and "Can we sustain ten billion people?".
