Pervasive digital healthcare is an emerging multidisciplinary
research direction, focusing on the development and application of pervasive
and ubiquitous computing technology for healthcare and wellness. Pervasive
digital healthcare explores the ways in which ubiquitous computing can
support the daily health and wellness needs of people in their homes and
everyday lives. It seeks to make healthcare available to anyone, anytime, and
anywhere by removing location, time and other restraints while increasing
both the coverage and quality of healthcare. The wide scale
deployment of wireless networks will improve communication among patients,
physicians, and other healthcare workers as well as enable the delivery of
accurate medical information anytime anywhere, thereby reducing errors and
improving access. Meanwhile, advances in intelligent mobile devices and
wearable sensors have made possible a wide range of efficient and powerful
medical applications, including mobile telemedicine, patient monitoring,
location-based medical services, emergency response and management, pervasive
access to medical data, personalized monitoring, and lifestyle incentive
management. Besides pervasive/ubiquitous computing, pervasive digital healthcare
also covers wide range of other research disciplines, like distributed systems,
software architecture, middleware, human-computer interaction, computer
supported cooperative work, etc. Pervasive digital healthcare has the
potential to reduce long-term costs and improve quality of life, but it also
faces many technical challenges. This PerCare workshop aims to
gather together experts in pervasive digital healthcare for sharing
information on recent developments – both technical and system-level
– contributing towards emerging pervasive digital healthcare
discipline. We seek novel, innovative, and exciting work in areas
including but not limited to:
