Short biography

My name is Haipeng Zeng (曾海鹏). I'm currently a Ph.D. candidate at VisLab, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, supervised by Prof. Huamin Qu. Before joining HKUST, I obtained Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Sun Yat-Sen University.

EmotionCues: Emotion-Oriented Visual Summarization of Classroom Videos

  • September 2017 - March 2018; Submitted to IEEE VIS 2018.
  • Implemented a visualization system which supports automatic emotion extraction from classroom videos and multi-level visual analysis, namely, by summarizing the overall emotion evolution and providing emotion portraits.
  • Integrated the model uncertainty into emotion analysis and provide visual cues
  • Helped teachers or parents better exploring emotions of students in classroom videos.

Inferring Social Media Users' Information Needs and Tastes from their Consumption of Friend-Curated Content: A Case Study on WeChat Articles

  • January 2018 - April 2018; Submitted to the CSCW 2018.
  • Studied the characteristics of user groups relying on friend network for information, the nature of contents people prefer to consume from their friend network, and the determinants of user's exploitation and exploration behaviors.
  • Designed an online survey to collect responses and conducted several interviews to gain valuable feedback.

Personalized Real-time Air-quality Informatics System for Exposure - Hong Kong (PRAISE-HK)

  • November 2016 - Present; A five-year ongoing project.
  • Implemented a web-based prototype of the Urban AQ modeling (PRAISE-AQ).
  • Further improved the PRAISE-AQ prototype for AQ prediction with real data, and characterization the PRAISE-AQ prototype for different indoor/outdoor microenvironment.

Visualization of Heterogeneous Data Integration in Thales Project

  • January 2016 - December 2017; A ITF theme-based project in Hong Kong.
  • Put different types of spatio-temporal data into a unified visualization platform to facilitate data fusion and integration.
  • Provided visual analytics techniques for video tracking data and social media data, and visualization methods for displaying the motions of thousands of individuals.
  • Implemented visualization modules for the smart-transportation system and equipment early warning system, which facilitate crowd's mobility and safety analysis.
