Abstract:

The web is a predominant channel for disseminating information and providing services to the public. Its usefulness will be greatly enhanced if the contents are accessible by the widest possible audience, including persons with disabilities. This seminar aims to share with the participants the importance of web/mobile app accessibility, common pitfalls, international standards, as well as best practices and related skills for making mobile applications and websites accessible.

Biography of the Speaker:

Ms Joanna Chan is a seasoned IT professional who has extensive experience in project management and implementation of IT systems in the HKSAR Government. Currently, she is serving as Systems Manager in the Digital Inclusion Sub-division of OGCIO responsible for formulating strategies and implementing digital inclusion initiatives to encourage social participation and enhance the quality of life of the needy groups including persons with disabilities, the elderly and students from low-income families. In particular, she focuses on promoting the adoption of accessible design in websites and mobile applications of both public and private sectors with an aim to facilitate persons with disabilities to access online information and services.
