Title: "A Survey on Reconfigurable Data Plane in Data Center
Networks"

by

Mr. Ge CHEN

Abstract:

Data Center Networks (DCNs) play an important role in delivering web services,
modern storage infrastructure and cloud computing. Over the past decade,
researchers and industry practitioners have spent great efforts designing and
optimizing network fabrics to efficiently support the rapidly increasing
traffic in data centers.

Driven by the rapidly increasing link speed and the complexity of network
management, there is a growing demand in the DCN community to apply
reconfigurable (programmable) data plane to achieve high performance and
flexibility. In this survey, we first introduce modern data centers and the
notion of control/data planes in network routing. Second, we introduce recent
hardware progress in reconfigurable data plane for both end host servers and
in-network switches. Finally, we present related work about applying
reconfigurable data plane in DCNs.
