Title: "A Survey on Visual Analytics in Urban Mobility"

Abstract:

Urban mobility indicates the patterns of human movement in cities.
Mobility associated with rapid urbanization has received increased
attention from various research fields. The study of mobility, which has a
long history, benefits individual residents and city planners. Viable data
from previous studies on mobility are greatly limited. With the
development of sensing technologies, however, an increasing amount of data
types can be collected to describe human movement and provide new
opportunities to study mobility from different perspectives.

Numerous automatic methods have been proposed for the collection of
mobility data. However, mobility patterns differ across time, space, and
situations. This variability complicates the analysis of mobility data and
requires the involvement of domain experts. Visual analytics bridge the
gap between data analysis techniques and domain knowledge.

In this survey, we first introduce mobility visualization and its existing
taxonomies. We then present a new taxonomy that classifies existing
literature on the basis of data descriptions: spatial points,
origin-destination, and trajectory. We further discussed the features,
sub-classification, and applications of each classification. Finally, we
provide insights on the future direction of mobility research.
