Title: "Immersive Analytics: Interactive Data Analytics in Immersive
Environment"

Abstract:

Visual analytics has been widely used to help people discover and understand
hidden knowledge in massive data. When using a visual analytics system, the
productivity of users is highly affected by the user experience. Traditionally,
visual analytics is conducted by people using computers or mobile devices in a
typical work environment. In recent years, the significant development of
immersive technologies stimulates the progress of several inexpensive
interaction and display devices, such as Leap Motion, Kinect, Oculus Rift and
Microsoft HoloLens. These devices create a sense of immersion, providing users
with brand new user experience. However, it is still unknown that how these new
interaction and display technologies can be used to support analytical
reasoning and decision making. Therefore, a new research thrust, Immersive
Analytics, is proposed to explore the applicability of emerging immersive
technologies to create better user experience and seamless workflow for
real-world data analytics tasks.

In this survey, we first introduce the emerging research thrust Immersive
Analytics and the motivation behind using immersive technology to analyze and
explore data. Then we propose a taxonomy based on the key elements of immersive
analytics. Supported by this taxonomy, we give a comprehensive review of
relevant research of immersive analytics. Finally, we conclude with several
potential research directions and topics.
