PhD Qualifying Examination

Title: "A Survey on Semantic Trajectory Data Mining"

by

Mr. Xibo ZHOU

Abstract:

With the development of location acquisition technology, large amounts of
trajectory data have been collected from location-aware devices and public
smart transportation systems. Trajectory data mining has attracted a lot of
researches in the past decade, which is essential to a wide range of
location-based services. In recent years, location-based applications such as
Foursquare and Facebook are redefining and enriching the traditional trajectory
databases by associating locations with semantic meanings. This brings
opportunity for trajectory data mining tasks to discover richer knowledge to
improve the performance of location-based applications. In this survey, we
introduce research topics and issues on semantic trajectory mining.
