A Survey of Techniques for Automatic Code Generation

PhD Qualifying Examination

Title: "A Survey of Techniques for Automatic Code Generation"

by

Mr. Xiaodong GU

Abstract:

Automatic code generation is a long-cherished dream in the area of software
engineering. Manual software development is labor-intensive and error prone.
The automatic composition of (partial) software is highly desirable, but
remains a very daunting task.

Recent advances in software engineering research and practice have shed light
on the possibilities of automatic software composition.

This survey presents a systematic literature review of code generation
techniques. Sixty-three articles have been reviewed and classified within the
taxonomy in order to organize and structure existing work in the field of code
generation. The survey also discusses open issues and future directions in the
field of code generation.
