PhD Qualifying Examination

Title: "A Survey on Music Emotion and Reverberation"

by

Mr. Ron Ka Chun MO

Abstract:

Music emotion is a growing and popular research topic. Previous study have
already shown that musical instrument sounds have strong and distinctive
emotional characteristics. However, it is still largely unknown to what
extent reverberation influences the music emotion. The purpose of this
survey is to highlight the importance of exploring the relationship
between music emotion and audio processes, in particular, reverberation.
Music emotion research, along with the study of reverberation, is
discussed in detail in this survey. A brief discussion on the preliminary
study of reverberated instrument sounds is also included to give a
practical and clear direction for future research on reverberation and
other audio processes.
