PhD Qualifying Examination "A Survey on Reliable Data Transmission in Wireless Sensor Networks" Mr. Quanbin Chen Abstract: Unlike other networks, reliable data transmission is not a binary logic in wire-less sensor networks, since guaranteed reliability is expensive to be implemented. Based on the packet content, data transmission services of different reliability levels should be supplied discriminatively. Moreover, rather than the transport layer providing the end-to-end reliability services, reliability schemes in wireless sensor networks reside in MAC module, routing module as well as the application module, all with the first design con-sideration-energy efficiency. In this paper, we summarize the pervious work according to reliable broadcast and reliable unicast; discuss the reliability techniques in different modules; and point out some future directions.
