BDBI donor visits the lab for industry updates

A delegation of seven led by Mr. Raymond Chu, the generous donor who made the establishment of the Big Data for Bio Intelligence Lab (BDBI) possible, visited HKUST and BDI Lab on 28 July 2017. There was a very pleasant exchange and an update on the AI development by the team of Prof Qiang Yang, Director of BDI.

There were demos and presentations of deep learning applications by the research team. Dr. Yu Zhang, Research Assistant Professor of CSE, presented on the background of deep learning; Mr. Bo Liu, PhD student of Prof Yang, presented on feature selection for Biology Data; followed by a Machine Reading demo for Raymond and the guests, who were deeply fascinated by the development pace in the area. Guest Mr. Patrick Chan had also updated all about the hydroponics farm of Defond Group.





HKUST Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Dr. Eden Woon dropped by to greet Mr. Chu during the meeting out of his packed schedule.



The visit was made complete by the casual and chatty lunch hosted by Prof Yang, which was joined by BDI associate directors Prof Yang Wang and Prof. Lei Chen.
