HKUST-SJTU Joint Workshop

On Friday, 30 September 2016, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU) organized a one-day joint workshop on Big Data and Smart City. The event was officiated by Prof Wei Shyy, Executive Vice-President & Provost of HKUST, Prof Tim Cheng, Dean of Engineering of HKUST, Prof Liqing Zhang, Vice Dean of Department of Computer Science and Engineering of SJTU, and Prof Qiang Yang, Head of Department of Computer Science and Engineering cum Director of Big Data Institute, HKUST.

The workshop was divided by three main sessions, first one being Big Data System Applications, chaired by Prof Qiong Luo; second one on Big Data and Smart City Challenges, chaired by Prof Kai Chen; and the final one on Big Data Computing and Storage, chaired by Prof Huamin Qu; where it was followed by a panel discussion on city images in late afternoon, before the closing remarks by Prof Yang, who led the group to the round up dinner at the Chinese restaurant in HKUST campus.

Throughout the workshop, all participants including postgraduate students and academic faculties were heavily involved in discussions and sharing their expertise, and had enjoyed the long but fruitful day together exchanging industry insights.
